- Average woman in U.S uses about 12 personal care products daily
- Average man is about 6 daily
- Each product contains a dozen or more chemicals
- Less than 20% of chemicals have been assessed for safety
- Some chemicals are carcinogens (cause cancer)
- neurotoxins/reproductive toxins which are proven to mess up brain development and reproduction
- Chemicals in cosmetics are getting into humans
- Babies are being born pre-polluted
- Important decisions happen when companies and governments decide what should go on the supermarket shelves
- Companies are sending the wrong message in their products
- Makers use toxins and forget about human health impacts
- Big cosmetic companies say the doses of poison products that are small are harmless
- No laws to get rid of chemical problems in cosmetics
- FDA doesn't assess the safety of the products or the ingredients
- They banned only 8 out of over 12,000 chemicals in cosmetics since 1937
- FDA also doesn't require all the chemicals be listed on labels
- Lack of regulation leads to a huge hole
- Companies set up own committee to self police their products
- Compliance with recommendations is voluntary
- Cosmetics industry is making the rules and decide whether or not to follow them
- It's a whole broken system ignoring 'toxics in, toxics out'
